HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

Congratulating the Kailua High school girls' softball team on winning the 2002-03 state softball championship.

 

 

WHEREAS, team sports that are offered through the athletic departments of Hawaii's schools prepare students with numerous challenging and rewarding opportunities by enabling them to apply physical and mental skills in athletic competition, while recognizing the importance in developing sportsmanship, discipline, and conditioning; and

WHEREAS, the 2002-03 KAILUA HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' SOFTBALL TEAM embodied these fine qualities and demonstrated their ability to succeed and excel by successfully maintaining an undefeated record throughout the season, resulting in winning the State title; and

WHEREAS, on February 16, 2003, the 2002-03 KAILUA HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' SOFTBALL TEAM persevered against the Kamehameha Schools Warriors in an exciting 2-1 victory in the State Championship game; and

WHEREAS, the 2002-03 KAILUA HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' SOFTBALL TEAM tossed a perfect game with a 17 strikeout, one-hitter earlier in the tournament, and dominated the championship game striking out five of their opponents first eight batters, not surrendering a hit until the third inning; and

WHEREAS, team member Courtney Kassell was named Most Outstanding Player, joined by fellow team players Tanisha Milca, Danielle Young, and Kamaile Hughes, who were all selected to the All-Tournament Team by the Honolulu Advertiser; and

WHEREAS, the exceptional qualities found in this outstanding team were skillfully orchestrated through the vision, dedication, and guidance of Head Coach Bernard Victor and his coaching staff, who played an essential role in making the dream of this State Championship a reality; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2003, that this body hereby applauds the KAILUA HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' SOFTBALL TEAM on winning the 2002-03 State Softball Championship; congratulates team members: Rusty Ann Borges, Pikake Choy Foo, Cienna Costa, Kainoa Hughes, Kamaile Hughes, Shyenne Hussey, Erin Guerrero, Kealalani Iaea, Courtney Kessell, Latoya Lastimosa, Jaushlyn Mansinon, Sharde Marshall, Tanisha Milca, Chante Mundon, Kalena Chasity Scott, Alisha Vegas, and Danielle Young; coaches Bernard Victor, Don Ferreira, Jim Dymond, Eddie Mitsuda, Dean Hughes, Star Perry, Danny Suehiro, Lot Montgomery, and Bobby Castillo; athletic trainer Ted Morikawa; team physicians Stuart Wakatsuki M.D. and Mark Beavers D.D.S; student trainers Keala Menza and Tai Kaaihue-Kamaka; scorekeepers Kapu Hughes and B. Victor; and athletic director Melvin Imai for their contributions to an outstanding season and their noteworthy accomplishments in the team's success, and extends to all of them its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
