congratulating the iolani school girls' cross country team on winning the state championship.
WHEREAS, student participation in interscholastic athletic competition contributes to the physical, mental, and emotional development of our youth, by instilling perseverance, fellowship, and good sportsmanship into the character of Hawaii’s future leaders; and
WHEREAS, winning the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Girls’ Cross Country Championship for the second year in a row is a feat that is testimony to the hard work, dedication, and team spirit of the IOLANI SCHOOL GIRLS’ CROSS COUNTRY TEAM, and confers pride on their entire school, including its students, faculty, and administration; and
WHEREAS, throughout the 2002 season, the IOLANI SCHOOL GIRLS’ CROSS COUNTRY TEAM displayed exemplary strategic and physical endurance, overcoming formidable opposition by placing a remarkable six runners in the top twenty places to earn an exciting victory over the best Hawaii high school cross country teams in the State Championship meet; and
WHEREAS, the fine qualities found in this superb team were skillfully orchestrated through the dedication and guidance of Head Coach Greg Char, who helped to make the dream of this State Championship a reality; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2003, that this body hereby congratulates and honors the outstanding members of the 2002 IOLANI SCHOOL GIRLS' CROSS COUNTRY TEAM, including Coach Greg Char, Nicole Anderson, Megan Chock, Becky Jones, Nicole Leong, Christi Morrissey, Jessika
Ngirblekuu, Joleen Oshiro, and Sara Tseng on winning the State Championship, and extends to them its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
