CONGRATULATING ROBERT LAU ON becoming the 6th grade United states CHESS CHAMPION
.
WHEREAS, our youth represents Hawaii’s future, the Legislature is proud to recognize the achievements of those conscientious and energetic individuals who showcase Hawaii’s best intellectual talent; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Hawaii takes great pride in recognizing select individuals who utilize their skill and energy to achieve great things through activities such as chess which require the use of higher level thinking skills; and
WHEREAS, one such individual, 6h grader ROBERT LAU, with the help and support of his family and coach Cornelius Rubsamen, has won several local and national chess tournaments; and
WHEREAS, ROBERT LAU, through hard work and dedication, brought home the first U.S. Chess Title in Hawaii History. He scored a perfect 6-0 record at the 2002 National K-12 Grade Championships in Atlanta, Georgia against a field of 238 of the country's best 6th graders; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2003, by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-Second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2003, that this body hereby congratulates and commends ROBERT LAU, our new 6th grade national champion, on his exciting triumph in the 2002 National K-12 Grade Championships in Atlanta, Georgia and extends its warmest aloha and best wishes for more championships and further success.
