WHEREAS, Travel Agent Magazine is the leading publication serving travel agents, and annually acknowledges and honors outstanding people in the travel industry in its prestigious "Person of the Year" awards; and

WHEREAS, this year, Marsha Wienert, Executive Director of the Maui Visitors Bureau, was the co-recipient of Travel Agent Magazine's "Person of the Year -– U.S." award for her tireless work in 2002 to promote Maui county as a tourist destination, which was particularly difficult in the post-September 11 economy; and

WHEREAS, David Carey won Travel Agent Magazine's coveted Person of the Year Award for 2002 in the Hotels and Resorts category for his creative leadership and his vision in shaping the hotel and resort industry in Hawaii and the Pacific region, including the Outrigger's Waikiki Beach Walk Project, the company's expansion in Hawaii and the Pacific, and Outrigger's recent strategic partnerships with two key hospitality operators -- Fairfield Resorts and Marriott International; and

WHEREAS, Tim Irwin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Pleasant Holidays, was named Travel Agent Magazine's 2002 Person of the Year in the Tours and Packages Category due to his expansion of Pleasant Holidays through the development of an agent-only Web site, which has provided new tools to assist agents with bookings while continuing to market and promote Hawaii as a premier visitor destination; and

WHEREAS, Alexander & Baldwin, Inc., led by President and CEO Allen Doane, was rated #1 in the category of Social Responsibility for 2003, ahead of six hundred fifty-nine other rated U.S. corporations by Fortune Magazine; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2003, that this body congratulates and commends Marsha Wienert, David Carey, and Tim Irwin on receiving their respective Travel Agent Magazine awards for 2003, and that this body also congratulates and commends Allen Doane, Chief Executive Officer of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc., on guiding Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. to a #1 ranking in Social Responsibility in Fortune Magazine's 2003 Industry Rankings, and that this body wishes the awardees much success in their future endeavors.
