HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

recognizing nathan ho`opono jackson.

 

 

WHEREAS, with a profound admiration of the dedication and steadfast efforts for those who strive for success, the citizens of the State of Hawaii take great pride in recognizing those select individuals who utilize their athletic ability and commitment to be the best that they can be; and

WHEREAS, NATHAN HO`OPONO JACKSON graduated from Waianae High School in 1998, where he excelled in his chosen fields of baseball, basketball, and football for which he was named as defensive player of the year and selected for first team on the All-State list; and

WHEREAS, upon graduation from high school, NATHAN HO`OPONO JACKSON joined the University of Hawaii Warrior football team as a walk-on and persevered in becoming a 4-year starter at free safety; and

WHEREAS, NATHAN HO`OPONO JACKSON, according to many his fans, excelled in the sport of football and is well remembered as "The Flyin' Hawaiian," whose talents on the field were exhibited by his hard-hitting plays on the ball; and

WHEREAS, faced with the challenge of a life-threatening illness, NATHAN HO`OPONO JACKSON underwent heart surgery, successfully replacing a heart valve, and was released from the hospital in December 2002; and

WHEREAS, NATHAN HO`OPONO JACKSON returned to the University of Hawaii in January, 2003, to continue his education and begin practice with the Warrior baseball team; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-second Legislature, Regular Session of 2003, that this body `hereby recognizes NATHAN HO`OPONO JACKSON for having demonstrated exemplary dedication, determination, hard work, and pride in the continuance and development of his academic and athletic skills, and extends to him its warmest aloha and sincerest wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
