A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part II, subpart B, to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§302A- Complex areas; curricula. (a) There are established fifteen complex areas comprising multiple school complexes as determined by the superintendent of education in consultation with the board of education.

(b) The complex areas shall ensure that curricula, within each school complex, and as practicable within each complex area:

(1) Are aligned with statewide performance standards pursuant to section 302A-201; and

(2) Demonstrate a coherent progression throughout all grade levels."

SECTION 2. Section 302A-101, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended as follows:

1. By adding two new definitions to be appropriately inserted and to read:

""Complex area" means a grouping of complexes established by the department for administrative support and organizational purposes.

"Complex area superintendent" means the chief administrative officer of a complex area and the school complexes therein."

2. By repealing the definition of "regional administrative unit".

[""Regional administrative unit" means a grouping of complexes established by the department for administrative support and organizational purposes."]

SECTION 3. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
