SENATE MINORITY POLICY LEADER SUPPORTS HAWAII'S PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS

HONOLULU-Senate Minority Policy Leader Bob Hogue (District 24 Kaneohe-Enchanted Lake) today joined the House Minority Caucus' position on urging the state to agree on a two-year bonus for teachers with professional diplomas and/or master's degrees.

"I respect the governor's position, but the bickering between the parties must stop. This is destroying the morale of the teachers and having an adverse effect on our children's education. It's time to end this now and move forward," Hogue said.

The current dispute over the teacher bonuses is the last phase of the finalization of a contract deal between the state and the HSTA. The three-week strike ended last spring.
