MAGAOAY FILES FOR RE-ELECTION TO HOUSE

State Rep. Michael Magaoay (D - Kahuku, Waialua) yesterday made it official by filing nomination papers seeking a second term in the State House of Representatives. Under reapportionment, Magaoay's new 46th District encompasses most of Oahu's North Shore, including Laie, Kahuku, Sunset, Haleiwa, Waialua, Mokuleia, the Schofield-Wheeler area and Kunia.

In Magaoay's first term, he served as vice chair of the Economic Development & Business Concerns Committee, and sat on the important Finance Committee.

"I now realize how much you have to learn about the legislative process before you can become an effective lawmaker," Magaoay said. "I now have those skills and I'm more determined than ever to serve the people of Oahu's North Shore as well as the entire State."

An electrical engineer by profession, Magaoay played a crucial role in helping fellow lawmakers understand and approve critical legislation to help revive the economy, including commercial and residential construction tax credits, tourism marketing support, and nurturing development of the high tech industry.

"I'm a businessman, but like many other Hawaii entrepreneurs, I strongly believe that pro-business legislation must be balanced with the needs of the entire community and our priceless natural environment," he said.
