The purpose of this informational briefing is to discuss the issues and concerns of our marine resources in Hawaii. To assist us, the following topics will be presented by individuals considered to be most knowledgeable within their area of expertise.

. The Importance of Refuges to Reef Fish Replenishment in Hawaii, presented by Dr. Charles Birkland, USGS and Hawaii

Cooperative Fishery Research Unit.

. The Status of Hawaii's Inshore Fisheries at the Millennium, presented by Dr. Alan Friedlander, Oceanic Institute researcher

and President of the American Fisheries Society-Hawaii Chapter.

. The Status of Invasive Aquatic species in the Hawaiian Islands presented by Dr. Celia Smith, University of Hawaii at

Manoa.

. Vessel Monitoring Systems as a Fisheries Enforcement Tool, presented by Mr. Robert Harmon, National Marine Fisheries

Service.

. Implementation of the Statue-to-Rules Legislation Passed in 1999, presented by a representative from the Division of

Aquaic Resources.

. Current Status of the Marine Option Program, presented by Dr. Sherwood Maynard, University of Hawaii at Manoa.
