RELATING TO PENSION AND RETIREMENT SYSTEMS.

Provides that if a firefighter retires because of a service-connected disability pursuant to section 88-79 and the former firefighter subsequently returns to service in any position other than a firefighter, the member's retirement allowance shall be two and one-half per cent of the member's average final compensation for each year of credited service as a firefighter.

RELATING TO STATUTORY REFERENCES AFFECTED BY ACT 253, SESSION LAWS OF HAWAII 2000.

Effectuates correct statutory reference or language changes before Act 253, Session Laws of Hawaii 2000 takes effect on July 1, 2002.

RELATING TO WORKER'S COMPENSATION.

Gives an employer reasonable time to file an injuries report that includes amounts paid as of December 31.

RELATING TO SAFETY INSPECTION FREQUENCIES FOR REGULATED EQUIPMENT.

Allows the Department to set reinspection frequencies of boilers and pressure systems and elevators and kindred equipment based on safety considerations.

RELATING TO UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE APPEALS.

Allows Parties to file unemployment appeals directly with the employment security appeals referee's office.

RELATING TO LEAVES OF ABSENCE.

Provides that a written designation of beneficiary for earned and unpaid wages is void if the beneficiary predeceases the employee, if employee and beneficiary divorce, if unmarried employee subsequently marries, or if employee enters into or terminates a reciprocal beneficiary relationship.
