RELATING TO THE WOMEN IN MILITARY SERVICE FOR AMERICA MEMORIAL.

Appropriates funds to the department of defense to enable the State of Hawaii to make a donation on behalf of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial in Arlington National Cemetery. (HB77 HD1)

RELATING TO SPEEDING.

Establishes fines for motorists who drive their motor vehicles at speeds greater than the maximum speed limit in school zone or construction areas. (HB123 HD1)

RELATING TO CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY.

Requires drivers to place passengers less than 8 years and 80 pounds in a child passenger restraint system, except for booster seats in cars with lap seat belts, which for safety reasons are required only for children less than 8 years and 60 pounds. Children of 8 to 15 years must use seat belts. (HB135 HD2)

RELATING TO DRIVER LICENSING.

Amends licensing requirement to include motor scooters and clarifies that motor scooters are covered by commercial driver's license. (HB830 HD2)

RELATING TO TRANSPORTATION.

Requires the department of transportation to conduct a feasibility study for toll roads in each county. Appropriates funds. (HB1273 HD2)

A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO USE OF INTOXICANTS.

Conforms amendments relating to revocation of motor vehicle registrations for repeat intoxicated drivers under ADLR proceedings with amendments that consolidate and conform offenses relating to operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant. (HB1405 HD1)

RELATING TO TOWING.

Increases towing fees from $50 to $55 for a tow, from $60 to $65 for a tow using a dolly, from $25 to $30 for multi-level towing surcharge, and increases mileage charge from $5 to $6.50 per mile. Specifies the days and times when towing companies are entitled to overtime charge. (HB1547 HD1)

RELATING TO CIVIL LIABILITY.

Provides the means to expedite the dismissal of a lawsuit against a person for exercising the right to petition, including informing, seeking relief, or otherwise participating in the process of government. (HB741 HD1)

RELATING TO COURTS.

Repeals the exemption from jury service for attorneys, heads of executive departments, judges, ministers or priests, practicing physicians or dentists, and active members of the armed forces, police, and fire department. Provides that elected officials serving in a legislative capacity may claim juror exemption only when the legislative body is in session. (HB828 HD1)

RELATING TO THE GENERAL EXCISE TAX.

Requires the department of taxation to continue working with the United States government, local businesses, and the labor community to develop a system to enforce the collection of GET from U.S. mainland contractors working in Hawaii on federal projects. Requests federal assistance. Gives director of taxation authority to contract with other entities. Requires report to the legislature on proposed legislation. (HB407 HD1)

RELATING TO PROFESSIONAL SERVICE CONTRACTS.

Allows purchasing agencies to use nongovernmental employee reviewers in reviewing the procurement of design professional services. (HB937 HD1)
