Requires an employer who provides sick leave to permit an employee to use not more than 10 days per year of their accrued and available sick leave to attend to their child, parent, spouse, or reciprocal beneficiary with a serious health condition. Prohibits an employer from denying the use of sick leave, discharging, demoting, suspending, or discriminating in the terms and conditions of employment against an employee for using or attempting to exercise the right to use sick leave to attend to a child, parent, spouse, or reciprocal beneficiary with a serious health condition. The Committee previously held public hearings on Senate bills that are substantially similar to House bills as noted. Please focus your testimony on the differences, if any, between the House and Senate measures as listed.
Persons wishing to testify should submit 30 copies of their testimony to the committee clerk, Room 231, State Capitol 24 hours prior to the hearing. Testimony may also be faxed if less than 5 pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24 hours prior to the hearing. When faxing, please indicate to whom the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the hearing, and the required number of copies needed for submittal.
