THE PURPOSE OF THIS INFORMATIONAL BRIEFING IS TO DISCUSS THE FOLLOWING:

PRESENTATION BY THE BOARD OF WATER SUPPLY ON ITS MODEL FOR REINVENTING GOVERNMENT IN HAWAII THROUGH AN EXPERIMENTAL MODERNIZATION PROJECT. THIS TYPE OF EXPERIMENTAL MODERNIZATION PROJECT WAS MADE PERMISSABLE UNDER THE CIVIL SERVICE REFORM INITIATIVES PURSUANT TO ACT 253, SESSION LAWS OF HAWAII 2000.

Appropriates funds for a study on the feasibility and advisability of establishing a state program of long-term care that offers protective coverage to the largest number of people reasonably possible. Requires that DOH provide the 2003 legislature with findings and recommendations, and that DOH prepare legislation for introduction in the 2003 session.

Makes an appropriation to the Department of Human Services to fund respite care services to relieve family stress.

The Department of Transportation will present their Biennium budget request. Testimony will be presented in five parts:

  1. Overview of the Transportation Program
  2. Air Transportation Facilities and Services
  3. Water Transportation Facilities and Services
  4. Land Transportation Facilities and Services, and
  5. Overall Program Support for Transportation

The major items that will be covered are program objectives, activities, various problems and issues related to transportation and budget requirements of the Transportation program for the Biennium Budget period of July, 2001 through June, 2003.
