HOUSE GOP: "DEMOCRATS FINALLY ALLOW OPEN DISCUSSION OF ISSUES AND THE PEOPLE OF HAWAII WIN!"

The House Majority gave in to Republican demands that Democrats follow the state constitution regarding free and open discussion of recalled bills. “The people of Hawaii want us to solve the big issues that affect their lives, like the cost of food and the need to protect our children from sexual predators,” said Rep. Galen Fox, House Republican Leader. Fox called the agreement on recall "a victory for the people of Hawaii."

Republicans are happy the Democrats finally understand recall provides a constitutional way to discuss issues of importance. "Because Hawaii lacks the right of initiative and referendum, it is so important to have open discussion through the right of recall," declared Rep. Fox. "Without recall, important issues like eliminating the GET on food and raising the age of consent on statutory rape can be buried by procedures and committee chairs."

Fox added, "We will only consider recalling measures important to the people, that have been buried by the Democrats in committee. These include bills protecting children from sexual predators and providing needed tax relief to working families and retirees."

In the future, Republicans look forward toward moving their agenda of reform and raising on behalf of the people, including education reform and calling for an elected attorney general.
