RELATING TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

Provides victims of domestic violence with the right to be notified by the defendant's probation officer when the probation officer has any information that relates to the safety and welfare of the victim. Provides the probation officer with immunity regarding such disclosure. (HB498 HD1) (HAMAKAWA)

RELATING TO THE UNAUTHORIZED PRACTICE OF LAW.

Clarifies the existing unauthorized practice of law statute, and increases criminal penalties for individuals who engage in the unauthorized practice of law. (SAY (BR))

RELATING TO THE UNIFORM ARBITRATION ACT.

Enacts the uniform arbitration act and repeals the existing law relating to arbitration and awards. Specifies the manner in which arbitration proceedings are to be conducted, requirements for hearings, and remedies. (HD1) (HIRAKI)

RELATING TO A SENTENCING SIMULATION MODEL.

Appropriates state matching funds of $47,177 for fiscal year 2001-2002 to develop, implement, and maintain a sentencing simulation model in the State. (GARCIA, SCHATZ, RATH, ESPERO, MAGAOAY, MOSES, Saiki, Souki, Lee, Nakasone)

RELATING TO THE JUDICIARY.

Makes a biennial appropriation to the judiciary for operating and capital improvement expenses. (HB1000 HD1) (SAY (BR))

Persons wishing to testify should submit 35 copies of their testimony to the committee clerk, Room 202, State Capitol 24 hours prior to the hearing. Testimony may also be faxed if less than 5 pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24 hours prior to the hearing. When faxing, please indicate to whom the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the hearing, and the required number of copies needed for submittal.

If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language interpreter, wheelchair accessibility, or parking designated for the disabled) please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior to the hearing so arrangements can be made.
