RELATING TO HOMELESS PROGRAMS.

Removes the requirement that the housing and community development corporation of Hawaii ensure that a compliance audit by an independent auditing agency is done once each fiscal biennium period.

RELATING TO PUBLIC ASSISTANCE.

Clarifies the distinction between the Department's authority to require an agreement that future grants of assistance will constitute an agreement or lien against a claimant's interest in real property, and the agreement or lien against real property where a claimant is an inpatient.

RELATING TO RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE BOARD OF MEDICAL EXAMINERS.

Provides for a streamlined license renewal process for medical professionals.

RELATING TO THE SALE OF STERILE SYRINGES FOR THE PREVENTION OF DISEASE.

Decriminalizes the sale of sterile syringes to persons who may use them for injection of illicit drugs.

RELATING TO PART-TIME EMPLOYEES.

Requires employers to offer participation in the employer's group medical insurance plan to part-time employees that would otherwise not qualify for health benefits. Requires that such nonqualifying part-time employees pay for 100% of health insurance premiums if they choose to participate.

Persons wishing to testify should submit 25 copies (two-hole punched at top of page) of their testimony to Room 219, State Capitol 24 hours prior to the hearing. Testimony may also be faxed if less than 5 pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24 hours prior to the hearing. When faxing, please indicate to whom the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the hearing, and the required number of copies needed for submittal.

If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language interpreter, wheelchair accessibility, or parking designated for the disabled) please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior to the hearing so arrangements can be made.
