STAND. COM. REP. NO.1416
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2001
RE: S.C.R. No. 52
Honorable Robert Bunda
President of the Senate
Twenty-First State Legislature
Regular Session of 2001
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committee on Water, Land, Energy and Environment, to which was referred S.C.R. No. 52 entitled:
"SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ACQUISITION OF KAHUKU RANCH BY THE UNITED STATES NATIONAL PARK SERVICE FOR EXPANSION OF THE HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to support the acquisition of Kahuku Ranch by the United States National Park Service for the expansion of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
Testimony in support of this measure was received from The Nature Conservancy of Hawaii.
Your Committee finds that this acquisition provides an opportunity to preserve a large tract of land with unique biological, geological, scenic, recreational, archaeological, and cultural assets. In addition, the area contains native flora that would be protected by inclusion in the Volcanoes National Park.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Water, Land, Energy and Environment that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of S.C.R. No. 52 and recommends that it be referred to the Committee on Transportation, Military Affairs and Government Operations.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Water, Land, Energy and Environment,
