STAND. COM. REP. NO.1664

Honolulu, Hawaii

, 2001

RE: S.C.R. No. 116

Honorable Robert Bunda

President of the Senate

Twenty-First State Legislature

Regular Session of 2001

State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Ways and Means, to which was referred S.C.R. No. 116 entitled:

"SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT TO STUDY COMPENSATION OF LICENSED ATTORNEYS EMPLOYED BY THE STATE OF HAWAII,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to request a study on the presence and type of compensation disparity, if any, among licensed attorneys employed by the State of Hawaii.

Your Committee finds that the principle of "equal pay for equal work" should apply to the compensation of licensed attorneys employed by the State of Hawaii.

Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Hawaii State Ethics Commission.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Ways and Means that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of S.C.R. No. 116 and recommends its adoption.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Ways and Means,
