STAND. COM. REP. NO. 369

Honolulu, Hawaii

, 2001

RE: S.B. No. 807

S.D. 1

Honorable Robert Bunda

President of the Senate

Twenty-First State Legislature

Regular Session of 2001

State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Economic Development and Technology, to which was referred S.B. No. 807 entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR BEACH RESTORATION AND BEAUTIFICATION,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to establish an adopt-a-beach program to assist the department of land and natural resources in beach restoration and beautification activities to clean up Hawaii's beaches.

An adopt-a-beach program brings agencies and communities together to help maintain and protect the landscapes of our beach parks.

Your Committee received testimony in favor of this bill from the Chairperson of the Board of Land and Natural Resources, Na Leo Pohai, and an individual.

Your Committee amended the measure by inserting $1 as the appropriation amount and by narrowing beautification activities to clean up of Hawaii's beaches.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Economic Development and Technology that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 807, as amended herein, and recommends that it pass Second Reading in the form attached hereto as S.B. No. 807, S.D. 1, and be referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Economic Development and Technology,
