STAND. COM. REP. NO.242
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2001
RE: S.B. No. 754
Honorable Robert Bunda
President of the Senate
Twenty-First State Legislature
Regular Session of 2001
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committees on Water, Land, Energy and Environment and Transportation, Military Affairs and Government Operations, to which was referred S.B. No. 754 entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO MARITIME LANDS,"
beg leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to establish a new class of land for maritime use.
Your Committees received testimony supporting this measure from the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii and Taylor Consultants. The Department of Land and Natural Resources submitted comments on this measure.
Your Committees find that maritime activities within the State provide essential social and economic benefits resulting from tourism, imports/exports, recreation, and other maritime activities. By allowing lands to be classified for maritime use as provided by this measure, those lands will more likely be preserved primarily for maritime use over time.
As affirmed by the records of votes of the members of your Committees on Water, Land, Energy and Environment and Transportation, Military Affairs and Government Operations that are attached to this report, your Committees are in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 754 and recommend that it pass Second Reading and be placed on the calendar for Third Reading.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committees on Water, Land, Energy and Environment and Transportation, Military Affairs and Government Operations,
