STAND. COM. REP. NO.943
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2001
RE: S.B. No. 545
S.D. 2
Honorable Robert Bunda
President of the Senate
Twenty-First State Legislature
Regular Session of 2001
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committee on Ways and Means, to which was referred S.B. No. 545, S.D. 1, entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR PACON INTERNATIONAL,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to appropriate $50,000 to support PACON International, the Pacific Congress on Marine Science and Technology.
Your Committee finds that the primary activities of PACON International are to sponsor an annual major international ocean science and technology meeting, sponsor a science teachers' workshop for Hawaii teachers, and plan annual ocean day activities. Your Committee further finds that the Hawaii chapter of PACON International has been incorporated in Hawaii to support the international and local programs for its membership of ocean scientists, engineers, and educators residing in Hawaii.
To facilitate further discussion on the funding necessary to carry out the purposes of this measure, your Committee has amended this bill by replacing the sum appropriated with the sum of $1. Your Committee has also made technical nonsubstantive corrections.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Ways and Means that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 545, S.D. 1, as amended herein, and recommends that it pass Third Reading in the form attached hereto as S.B. No. 545, S.D. 2.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Ways and Means,
