STAND. COM. REP. NO.877
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2001
RE: S.B. No. 523
S.D. 1
Honorable Robert Bunda
President of the Senate
Twenty-First State Legislature
Regular Session of 2001
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committee on Ways and Means, to which was referred S.B. No. 523 entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO APPOINTED PUBLIC OFFICIALS,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to repeal the statutorily set salary for the Deputy to the Superintendent of Education.
In addition, this measure authorizes the Board of Education to determine the salary of the Deputy Superintendent.
Your Committee finds that this measure provides equitable treatment to the Deputy Superintendent, considering that the Board of Education already holds the authority to set the salaries of department officials who are subordinate to the Deputy Superintendent. Your Committee also finds that the salary range set for the deputy district superintendents by statute may be out of step with the salary ranges for the officials whose salaries are determined by the Board.
Your Committee has amended this measure by repealing the statutorily set range of salaries for the deputy district superintendents.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Ways and Means that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 523, as amended herein, and recommends that it pass Third Reading in the form attached hereto as S.B. No. 523, S.D. 1.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Ways and Means,
