STAND. COM. REP. NO.87
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2001
RE: S.B. No. 336
S.D. 1
Honorable Robert Bunda
President of the Senate
Twenty-First State Legislature
Regular Session of 2001
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committee on Tourism and Intergovernmental Affairs, to which was referred S.B. No. 336 entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO TOURISM,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this short form bill is to amend the laws relating to tourism.
Your Committee has amended this bill by inserting language to transfer responsibility for tourism activities directly to the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism by establishing the tourism special fund, the five-year tourism marketing plan, and the Hawaii tourism registry in chapter 201, Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS); by amending the transient accommodations tax to allow the rate to increase based on the number of visitor arrivals, with a portion of the revenues to be expended for the operation and maintenance of state parks; and by repealing chapter 201B, the Hawaii Tourism Authority, and chapter 203, Tourism Development, HRS.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Tourism and Intergovernmental Affairs that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the action to report out S.B. No. 336, as amended herein, and recommends that it pass Second Reading in the form attached hereto as S.B. No. 336, S.D. 1, and be recommitted to the Committee on Tourism and Intergovernmental Affairs, for further consideration.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Tourism and Intergovernmental Affairs,
