STAND. COM. REP. NO.113
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2001
RE: S.B. No. 2
Honorable Robert Bunda
President of the Senate
Twenty-First State Legislature
Regular Session of 2001
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committee on Tourism and Intergovernmental Affairs, to which was referred S.B. No. 2 entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO LODGING OR TENEMENT HOUSES, HOTELS, AND BOARDINGHOUSES,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to eliminate the issuance of a county business license to operate lodging or tenement houses, hotels, and boarding houses, and repeal the $10 license fee.
Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the City and County of Honolulu and Hawaii Hotel Association.
Your Committee finds that lodging or tenement houses, hotels, and boarding houses are regulated by both the State Department of Health and the county departments that regulate building and zoning codes.
Your Committee finds that this measure will eliminate the duplicative county license requirements, while continuing to ensure adequate provisions are in place to protect consumers.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Tourism and Intergovernmental Affairs that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 2 and recommends that it pass Second Reading and be referred to the Committee on Judiciary.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Tourism and Intergovernmental Affairs,
