STAND. COM. REP. NO.493

Honolulu, Hawaii

, 2001

RE: S.B. No. 297

S.D. 1

Honorable Robert Bunda

President of the Senate

Twenty-First State Legislature

Regular Session of 2001

State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Economic Development and Technology, to which was recommitted S.B. No. 297, S.D. 1, entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to make an appropriation for marketing Hawaii's economic products.

Testimony in support of this measure was submitted by the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism.

Your Committee finds that that there are many new and innovative ways to market products, such as the Internet. And for Hawaii to join in the mass marketing occurring today, the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism needs to be assertive and develop new marketing strategies. Although traditional programs such as trade shows and festivals have worked in the past, we need to develop programs that can keep up with the times.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Economic Development and Technology that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 297, S.D. 1, and recommends that it be referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Economic Development and Technology,
