STAND. COM. REP. NO. 200
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2001
RE: S.B. No. 25
S.D. 1
Honorable Robert Bunda
President of the Senate
Twenty-First State Legislature
Regular Session of 2001
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committee on Transportation, Military Affairs and Government Operations, to which was referred S.B. No. 25 entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE NATIONAL WORLD WAR II MEMORIAL,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to appropriate funds to the Department of Defense to enable the State of Hawaii to make a donation to the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Your Committee received written testimony in support of this measure from the Office of Veterans' Services, the Oahu Veterans Council, the Kauai Veterans Advisory Board, the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, and a proud veteran. The Senator from the Eight District testified orally in support of this measure.
The National World War II Memorial on the mall in Washington, D.C., honors those Americans who fought bravely to defend freedom, and those on the home front who contributed to the war effort.
The project has been funded through private contributions and donations. Your Committee finds that every state in the nation has contributed toward the Memorial except for Hawaii. Your Committee believes that Hawaii should take its place alongside every other state and make a contribution to this important project.
Your Committee amended this measure to appropriate $25,000.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Transportation, Military Affairs and Government Operations that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 25, as amended herein, and recommends that it pass Second Reading in the form attached hereto as S.B. No. 25, S.D. 1, and be referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Transportation, Military Affairs and Government Operations,
