STAND. COM. REP. NO.509
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2001
RE: S.B. No. 1502
S.D. 1
Honorable Robert Bunda
President of the Senate
Twenty-First State Legislature
Regular Session of 2001
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committee on Economic Development and Technology, to which was referred S.B. No. 1502 entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO HIGH TECHNOLOGY,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to create a high technology task force to develop clear goals and an implementation plan to improve Hawaii's high technology industry.
Your Committee received testimony in favor of this measure from Hawaii Technology and Trade Association and Consulting Engineers Council of Hawaii.
Your Committee finds that Hawaii-based companies are venturing and succeeding in several areas of high technology. Your Committee further finds that although there is progress in Hawaii's high technology industry, focus and cohesiveness of the State's efforts to promote Hawaii's high technology industry is required to ensure long-lasting success.
Your Committee has amended this measure to clarify that the members of the task force shall be chosen from a list of proposed names submitted by each of the representative groups, to ensure full and committed participation by all members.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Economic Development and Technology that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 1502, as amended herein, and recommends that it pass Second Reading in the form attached hereto as S.B. No. 1502, S.D. 1, and be referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Economic Development and Technology,
