STAND. COM. REP. NO. 470
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2001
RE: S.B. No. 1460
Honorable Robert Bunda
President of the Senate
Twenty-First State Legislature
Regular Session of 2001
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committee on Judiciary, to which was referred S.B. No. 1460 entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE INTERMEDIATE APPELLATE COURT,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to increase the number of intermediate appellate court judges from three to five.
Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Judiciary.
Testimony of the Judiciary indicates that expansion of the intermediate court is a premise for later reorganization of the appellate system, which would be the subject of bills for the 2002 legislative session. The Judiciary also testified that no appropriation will be needed for the 2001-2002 fiscal year. Your Committee believes this measure will improve the functioning and efficiency of the appellate judicial process.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Judiciary that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 1460 and recommends that it pass Second Reading and be referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Judiciary,
