STAND. COM. REP. NO. 697
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2001
RE: S.B. No. 1317
Honorable Robert Bunda
President of the Senate
Twenty-First State Legislature
Regular Session of 2001
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committee on Judiciary, to which was referred S.B. No. 1317 entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE FILING DATE OF ANNUAL FINANCIAL INTERESTS DISCLOSURE STATEMENTS,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to advance the deadline for the annual filing of financial interests disclosure statements by public officers and employees from May thirty-first to May fifteenth.
Your Committee received testimony in favor of this measure from the State Ethics Commission.
Your Committee finds that moving the date for financial interests disclosures statements would help the Commission and its clerical staff avoid a needless crunch of work around the end of May. At the same time, legislators would be provided approximately two weeks after the end of the session to file their financial disclosure statements.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Judiciary that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 1317 and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Judiciary,
