STAND. COM. REP. NO. 210

Honolulu, Hawaii

, 2001

RE: S.B. No. 1186

Honorable Robert Bunda

President of the Senate

Twenty-First State Legislature

Regular Session of 2001

State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Judiciary, to which was referred S.B. No. 1186 entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE CRIME VICTIM COMPENSATION COMMISSION,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to require the appointment of an executive director and an administrative assistant for the criminal injuries compensation commission without regard to civil service law.

Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Crime Victim Compensation Commission.

Your Committee finds that appointment of an executive director and an administrative assistant who are exempt from civil service is the usual practice for state commissions and will assist the Commission in performing its function.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Judiciary that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 1186 and recommends that it pass Second Reading and be referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Judiciary,
