STAND. COM. REP. NO.799
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2001
RE: S.B. No. 1122
S.D. 1
Honorable Robert Bunda
President of the Senate
Twenty-First State Legislature
Regular Session of 2001
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committee on Ways and Means, to which was referred S.B. No. 1122, S.D. 1, entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE DISABILITY AND COMMUNICATION ACCESS BOARD,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to allow the Disability and Communication Access Board to charge a fee for applicants seeking state credentialling as an interpreter, and establishing a special fund for these fees, to be used for administering the credentialling test.
Your Committee finds that the Disability and Communication Access Board has established a mechanism for the state credentialling of sign language interpreters who do not have national certification. The startup costs for the credentialling have been initially underwritten, but ongoing support is needed. Your Committee finds that authorizing a reasonable fee, to be deposited into a special fund to be used to administer the testing, is appropriate.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Ways and Means that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 1122, S.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Ways and Means,
