STAND. COM. REP. NO. 1128

Honolulu, Hawaii

, 2001

RE: H.B. No. 869

Honorable Robert Bunda

President of the Senate

Twenty-First State Legislature

Regular Session of 2001

State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Agriculture, to which was referred H.B. No. 869 entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO AGRICULTURAL LOANS,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to recognize additional legal business entities for agricultural loan eligibility. In addition, this measure eliminates redundant language relating to residency requirements.

Your Committee received testimony in favor of this measure from the Department of Agriculture.

Your Committee finds that the purpose of the agricultural loan program is to assist farming enterprises in securing financing for their operations. New legal forms of business entities have been created under which farming operations may choose to conduct business. This measure allows farmers to take advantage of these new business forms.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Agriculture that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 869 and recommends that it pass Second Reading and be referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Agriculture,
