STAND. COM. REP. NO.1464

Honolulu, Hawaii

, 2001

RE: H.B. No. 77

H.D. 1

S.D. 1

Honorable Robert Bunda

President of the Senate

Twenty-First State Legislature

Regular Session of 2001

State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Ways and Means, to which was referred H.B. No. 77, H.D. 1, entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE WOMEN IN MILITARY SERVICE FOR AMERICA MEMORIAL,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to appropriate funds to the Department of Defense to enable the State to make a donation to the Women in Military Service for America Memorial in the Arlington National Cemetery.

The Women in Military Service for America Memorial is a long over due recognition of all of the American women who served honorably and unselfishly in times of war or conflict. Although Hawaii reports nearly 8,000 women in the military, Hawaii is the only state that has not donated funds to show its support for this monument. Your Committee finds that this bill will enable Hawaii to join the other forty-nine states in making a donation to the Women in Military Service for America Memorial, expressing Hawaii's support and appreciation for the contributions of American women in the military.

Your Committee has amended this bill by changing the amount of funds appropriated to $5,000.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Ways and Means that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 77, H.D. 1, as amended herein, and recommends that it pass Third Reading in the form attached hereto as H.B. No. 77, H.D. 1, S.D. 1.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Ways and Means,
