STAND. COM. REP. NO. 1487
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2001
RE: H.B. No. 1679
H.D. 1
S.D. 1
Honorable Robert Bunda
President of the Senate
Twenty-First State Legislature
Regular Session of 2001
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committee on Hawaiian Affairs, to which was referred H.B. No. 1679, H.D. 1, S.D. 1, entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO DILLINGHAM AIRFIELD,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to rename Dillingham airfield as Kawaihapai airfield upon the transfer of the airfield to the State from the United States Army.
Your Committee received testimony in favor of the measure from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, the Department of Transportation, Life of the Land, Liliuokalani Protestant Church, and three individuals.
Your Committee finds that restoration and recognition of Hawaiian names of places benefit everyone by instilling cultural identity and serving as a legacy for our children.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Hawaiian Affairs that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 1679, H.D. 1, S.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Hawaiian Affairs,
