Your Committee on Transportation, Military Affairs and Government Operations, to which was referred H.B. No. 1679, H.D. 1, entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO DILLINGHAM AIRFIELD,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to rename Dillingham airfield as Kawaihapai airfield.

Your Committee received testimony in favor of this measure from the Department of Transportation, Liliuokalani Protestant Church, and four individuals.

Your Committee finds that restoration and recognition of Hawaiian names of places benefit everyone by instilling cultural identity and serving as a legacy for our children.

Your Committee has amended this measure by modifying the effective date to upon the completion of the transfer of the land back to the State by the United States Army.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Transportation, Military Affairs and Government Operations that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 1679, H.D. 1, as amended herein, and recommends that it pass Second Reading in the form attached hereto as H.B. No. 1679, H.D. 1, S.D. 1, and be referred to the Committee on Hawaiian Affairs.
