The purpose of this measure is to standardize Hawaii's child custody laws with those found in other states by enacting the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act.

Your Committee received written testimony in favor of this measure from the Domestic Violence Clearinghouse and Legal Hotline. Your Committee received written comments on this measure from the Judiciary.

Your Committee finds that this measure is necessary to provide uniformity of laws among the states in child custody determinations.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Judiciary that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 1538, S.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
