STAND. COM. REP. NO.1773

Honolulu, Hawaii

, 2001

RE: GOV. MSG. NO. 309

Honorable Robert Bunda

President of the Senate

Twenty-First State Legislature

Regular Session of 2001

State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Hawaiian Affairs, to which was referred Governor's Message No. 309, submitting for study and consideration the nominations of:

ISLAND BURIAL COUNCIL, ISLAND OF OAHU

LYNETTE PUALANI TIFFANY, for a term to expire June 30, 2002;

CHARLES A. EHRHORN, for a term to expire June 30, 2003; and

ERIC R. BEAVER, for a term to expire June 30, 2005,

begs leave to report as follows:

Upon review of the testimony and statements submitted by the nominees, your Committee finds that each of the nominees has the necessary character, experience, and qualifications to serve on the Island Burial Council for the Island of Oahu.

Your Committee received testimony in support of each nominee from the Department of Land and Natural Resources.

Lynette Pualani Tiffany is being nominated as a regional representative of the Ewa District. Her family has strong roots at Lanikuhonua, and she is well respected for her knowledge of the Hawaiian culture and traditions. She is currently serving on the Island Burial Council as a landowners representative, and has served in a conscientious and diligent manner.

Charles A. Ehrhorn is being nominated as a large landowner representative. He is employed by Campbell Estate, and has previously served on the Island Burial Council. The Department of Land and Natural Resources testified that Mr. Ehrhorn has brought broadminded balance to the Island Burial Council.

Eric R. Beaver is employed by Hawaii Reserves Inc., and is being nominated for a second term as a large landowners representative. The Department of Land and Natural Resources testified that Mr. Beaver has served in a conscientious and diligent manner during the past four years.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Hawaiian Affairs that are attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, character, experience, and qualifications of the nominees, has found the nominees to be qualified for the positions to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nominations.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Hawaiian Affairs,
