Your Committee on Health and Human Services, to which was referred Governor's Message No. 247, submitting for study and consideration the nominations of:
BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE HAWAII HEALTH SYSTEMS CORPORATION
MICHAEL H. LYONS II and GEORGE F. MUKAI, for terms to expire June 30, 2005,
begs leave to report as follows:
Upon review of the of the testimony and statements submitted by the nominees, your Committee finds that each of the nominees has the necessary character, experience, and qualifications to serve on the Board of Directors of the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
Testimony in support of the reappointment for Michael H. Lyons II was received from Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, and testimony in support of appointment George F. Mukai was received from Hawaii Government Employees Association.
Mr. Lyons is the current Chair of the Hawaii Health System Corporation Board of Finance Committee and his financial background has been a tremendous asset to the Corporation. Mr. Lyons spent most of his professional career at Bank of Hawaii in various positions. He has also served on various community and professional organizations such as Kahului Rotary Club, Maui County Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Maui Chamber of Commerce, Lahaina Restoration Foundation as well as many other related boards and commissions which have added to his qualifications to be reappointed to the Hawaii Health Systems Corporations Board.
Mr. Mukai served on the Hawaii Health System Corporation Kauai Management Advisory Committee, worked as a volunteer at the Samuel Mahelona Hospital, and served as a member of the Kapaa High Health Service Center Advisory Council. He has been recognized for his outstanding contributions and volunteer services to the community from the Office of Elderly Affairs and honored by Governor Cayetano at a recognition ceremony for Older Americans. His dedication to the community and to health will make him a valuable new asset to the Hawaii Health Systems Corporations Board.
Your Committee finds through review of their qualifications and testimony received that these nominees have been appointed based upon their credentials, integrity, and commitment to the success of the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Health and Human Services that are attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, character, experience, and qualifications of the nominees, has found the nominees to be qualified for the positions to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nominations.
