Your Committee on Commerce, Consumer Protection and Housing, to which was referred Governor's Message No. 243, submitting for study and consideration the nominations of:
BOARD OF VETERINARY EXAMINERS
PATRICK A.Y.H. AHANA, D.V.M., and NARIYOSHI HIRAOKA, for terms to expire June 30, 2005,
begs leave to report as follows:
Upon review of the testimony and statements submitted by the nominees, your Committee finds that each of the nominees has the necessary character, experience, and qualifications to serve on the Board of Veterinary Examiners.
Patrick A.Y.H. Ahana, D.V.M., is a graduate of Kansas State University, College of Veterinary Medicine, and operates the Kapaa Animal Clinic. Dr. Ahana is a member of the Hawaii Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
As the current public member on the Board, Nariyoshi Hiraoka has participated in the review of license applications and proposed administrative rules and in the disciplining of licensees. Mr. Hiraoka has a history of community service with various organizations, including the Rotary Club of Honolulu, United States Army Museum Association, and the Hawaii International Film Festival. Mr. Hiraoka's nomination was supported by the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Commerce, Consumer Protection and Housing that are attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, character, experience, and qualifications of the nominees, has found the nominees to be qualified for the positions to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nominations.
