requesting the senate economic development and technology committee to encourage economic development by holding public hearings on organizing a multicultural village at kakaako and developing a waterfront master plan from keehi lagoon to kakaako.
WHEREAS, the Honolulu waterfront is a special public asset that serves as the State's principal harbor and provides boundless opportunity for economic development, public enjoyment, and civil identity; and
WHEREAS, the development of a multicultural village at Kakaako is an ideal project that embodies the desires of the community as well as an appropriate educational aspect; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-First Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, that the Senate Economic Development and Technology Committee hold public hearings for the purpose of gathering public comments on the formulation of a masterplan for the Honolulu waterfront from Keehi Lagoon through Kakaako, as well as a masterplan for a multicultural village at Kakaako; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate Committee on Economic Development and Technology provide a report on the public hearings and their accomplishments to the Senate by the end of the year; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hawaii Heritage Preservation Alliance shall include a masterplan for the multicultural village at Kakaako as part of the overall development of the Honolulu waterfront masterplan; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the President of the Senate, Senate Committee on Economic Development and Technology, and the Hawaii Heritage Association Alliance.
