SENATE RESOLUTION

 

requesting the governor to designate DECEMBER 15 as bill of rights day.

 

WHEREAS, the rights of individuals are the oldest and most traditional of American values; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Jefferson once said, a bill of rights "is what the people are entitled to against every government on earth, general or particular, and what no just government should refuse"; and

WHEREAS, the Bill of Rights was ratified on December 15, 1791, and established soaring principles that guaranteed fundamental individual rights; and

WHEREAS, recognizing and celebrating the adoption of the Bill of Rights would serve as a reverent reminder of its importance to the people of the United States and the world as a foundation of individual freedom; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-First Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, that the Governor is requested to designate December 15 as Bill of Rights Day; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor.
