SENATE RESOLUTION

 

Requesting a task force be formed to formulate a comprehensive computer education program in public schools.

 

WHEREAS, the progressive competence required of all public school pupils in the use of computer technology by section 302A-1128, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is not guided by a sufficiently comprehensive computer education program; and

WHEREAS, resources cannot be properly allocated to computer education within the public schools in the absence of such a comprehensive program; and

WHEREAS, this task force must adequately represent all of the major stakeholders in this process; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-First Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, that the Chairperson of the Board of Education shall appoint to this task force a representative of the Board of Education, the Superintendent of Education or the Superintendent's designee, an additional representative from the Department of Education, a school-level computer education resource teacher, a member of the general public, and a member of the business community; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this task force shall present a report of its findings to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the 2002 Regular Session; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to Chairperson of the Board of Education and the Superintendent of Education.
