Report Title:

Bus Vouchers for State and City Employees

THE SENATE

S.R. NO.

24

TWENTY-FIRST LEGISLATURE, 2001

STATE OF HAWAII

SENATE RESOLUTION

requesting research into a bus voucher system for state and city employees.

WHEREAS, rush hour traffic in Honolulu is a daily annoyance leading to increased pollution, automobile accidents, delays, and headaches; and

WHEREAS, during state holidays, traffic problems appear to dissipate because state and county employees are not driving to and from work; and

WHEREAS, since state and county employees commuting to work are a contributing factor to rush hour traffic congestion, it is incumbent on government to find some means to correct this situation; and

WHEREAS, an alternative way of taking state and county employees off the highways during rush hours to lessen traffic congestion, other than creating more state holidays, should be explored; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-First Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, that the Department of Transportation is requested to examine the potential and effectiveness of a bus voucher system for state and county employees to relieve traffic on our highways; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is requested to report findings and recommendations to the Legislature twenty days before the convening of the Regular Session of 2002; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Transportation.
