A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO SEX OFFENDERS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 846E, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§846E-   Youth organizations; obtaining information required. (a) An organization providing services to children under the age of eighteen shall access information on registered sex offenders under section 846E-3(d) prior to engaging a person in a paid or voluntary capacity who will be working in close proximity to children.

(b) For purposes of this section, notwithstanding section 846E-3(d), access to information shall be furnished on the Internet by the Hawaii criminal justice data center; provided that no fee shall be assessed to access the information.

(c) As used in this section, "services" includes sport

activities, recreational activities, after-school and weekend activities, community-school activities, and arts and crafts, or any other extracurricular activities for children."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
