A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO THE KAHULUI ARMORY.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 363, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding two new sections to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§363-   Kahului armory; transfer of control and use as a veterans' center. (a) Notwithstanding any provision of chapter 171 to the contrary, upon the termination of the department of defense's use of the Kahului armory as an armory, the control of the land, buildings, facilities, and any appurtenances thereto shall be transferred to the office for use as a veterans' center.

(b) The office may enter into lease agreements with veterans' organizations for use of the Kahului armory as a veterans' center and may assess a reasonable fee for use of the facilities. The office may also enter into an agreement with the department of land and natural resources to allow the department to continue using facilities at Kahului armory. The revenues received from the leasing of the Kahului armory as a veterans' center shall be deposited into the veterans' center revolving fund established under section 363- .

§363- Veterans' center revolving fund; established. There is established a veterans' center revolving fund for use by the office to cover the costs associated with the repair and maintenance of the veterans' centers under its control. Moneys in the fund may be expended for materials, salaries, equipment, and related repair and maintenance costs; provided that revenues received from the leasing of the Kahului armory as a veterans' center shall only be applied toward the veterans' center at Kahului. Moneys derived from the leasing of veterans' centers as provided under section 363- , shall be deposited into the fund."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
