A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO COURTS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The legislature finds that the drug court system of the judiciary has worked well to divert drug offenders from incarceration and into drug treatment and rehabilitation programs. The legislature further finds that the rural areas of Maui county lack accessibility to drug courts and programs.
The purpose of this Act is to expand the drug court system and attendant programs in Maui county to cover rural areas.
SECTION 2. The drug court system of the judiciary for adults and juveniles, including all related drug treatment programs and rehabilitation programs of the judiciary, shall be expanded in the second circuit of Maui county to provide accessibility in rural areas of the islands of Maui, Lanai, and Molokai.
SECTION 3. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2001-2002, to expand the drug court system for adults and juveniles, including related drug treatment and rehabilitation programs of the judiciary in the second circuit of Maui county, to provide accessibility in rural areas of the islands of Maui, Lanai, and Molokai.
SECTION 4. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the judiciary for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 5. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2001.
