TWENTY-FIRST LEGISLATURE, 2001

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

relating to kakaako community development.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that Kakaako has the potential to develop economically into a place where Hawaii residents, businesses, and tourists can all benefit. However, the legislature recognizes that in order to create a perfect balance, there needs to be oversight and organization in its economic development. The purpose of this Act is to require the Hawaii community development authority to contract with a private nonprofit entity to provide guidance in ensuring that the development of Kakaako reflects the many cultures of Hawaii, thus creating a Kakaako multicultural village.

SECTION 2. The Hawaii community development authority shall contract with a private nonprofit entity to provide research and guidance to ensure that the projects in the Kakaako community development district incorporate Hawaii's many different cultures such that a multicultural village is created.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
