A BILL FOR AN ACT
Making an appropriation for the department of education Maui district athletics.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The legislature finds that Maui district schools incur additional transportation expenses when providing interscholastic activities, including athletic events, and other student activities. Inter-school transportation between Maui district schools frequently requires transportation by air due to the fact that the Maui school district includes the islands of Lanai and Molokai. This is an additional expense not borne by other school districts in the State.
The purpose of this Act is to defer the additional transportation expenses borne by Maui district schools.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $100,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2001-2002, to be expended through the EDN 100 account of the department of education for the interisland air and ground transportation expenses of students from the department of education Maui district athletics to participate in state athletic tournaments, off island games, field trips, and other student activities. This sum is supplemental to any amount allocated for these purposes in the comprehensive department of education budget act.
SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2001.
