PROCLAIMING MAY 2001 AS HEALTH AND WELLNESS AWARENESS MONTH.
WHEREAS, Hawaii is being developed as a wellness destination; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii is being promoted as a nurturing and healing environment, based on the Hawaiian concepts of lokahi and Aloha, which empowers all to experience health, well-being, and an enhanced quality of life; and
WHEREAS, rising health care costs have forced corporations, insurance companies, and government to look for alternatives; and
WHEREAS, there is a need to educate the populace of the various health modalities available in Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, focus on preventive health care and cost-effective techniques comes as we prepare for health care reform; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii is looking for new industries to create productive jobs for its residents and bring revenue to the State; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii is poised at the tip of a wellness industry that could bring all empowered organizations and people to work together for the benefit of Hawaii and the world; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, that this body proclaims May 2001 as Health Wellness Awareness Month, culminating with the First Annual Symposium on Health and Wellness in Hawaii that will be partially funded by the Hawaii Tourism Authority; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Board of Directors of the Hawaii Tourism Authority and the Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism.
