HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

CONGRATULATING VICKY CAYETANO, LYNNE WAIHEE, JEAN ARIYOSHI, AND NANCY QUINN AS THE RECIPIENTS OF THE 2001 WINNERS AT WORK PALAKA AWARD.

 

 

WHEREAS, VICKY CAYETANO, LYNNE WAIHEE, JEAN ARIYOSHI, and NANCY QUINN have received the 2001 Winners at Work Palaka Award which recognizes individual achievement and excellence, but, more importantly, an individual whose actions and leadership style reflect the values of our Islands; and

WHEREAS, providing an array of state-of-the-art employment services to persons with disabilities, family members, employers, and professionals, Winners At Work is a mission-driven, value-oriented, non-profit organization that has served the community for the past 18 years by affording individuals with disabilities opportunities for meaningful work in our community; and

WHEREAS, a traditional cloth in Hawaii, initially made into a loose-fitting, long-sleeved outer garment, the palaka is the Pattern of the Islands and was popular with sugar and pineapple plantation field workers for its durability and protection from the elements and symbolic of the working people of Hawaii; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, that this body commends VICKY CAYETANO, LYNNE WAIHEE, JEAN ARIYOSHI, and NANCY QUINN on their accomplishments as the recipients of the 2001 Winners at Work Palaka Award and for their numerous outstanding contributions to the people of Hawaii, and extends to them its warmest Aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
